A "tithe" in the Bible refers to giving the first 10% of one's income - the idea of "firstfruits" - to God. This means, for example, if your income is $2,500/month, you would give $250/month. This is what God required of His people in the Old Testament. There is some debate among faithful Christians whether New Testament Christians are still commanded to tithe, but it is generally understood that the Scriptural command to give generously to 1) those who preach the gospel (Matt. 10:10; Luke 10:7; 1 Cor. 9:6–14; 1 Tim. 5:17–18) and 2) those who are in need (1 Tim. 6:17–19; 2 Cor. 8–9) would include giving at least a tithe.
