You may be like me during this time - longing for a sense of normalcy, questioning when we can see and hug friends again, weary after each long day, or even wondering where God is in all this.
It can be easy to focus on the negative and uncertainty, especially when it’s blasted across social media, news apps, and commercials.
But I keep coming back to this truth: God is here, and He is enough.
He is where we look for comfort, wisdom, and joy—yes, joy—even in the middle of a pandemic when everything else around us may seem dismal.
When we’re struggling to understand, God welcomes us to seek answers from Him, and when we’re wrestling with how to even turn our thoughts and feelings into prayers, the Spirit intercedes for us (Romans 8:26-27).
Our hope is still, and always will be, in Christ because He never falls short. He is the answer to all we need. I’m constantly reminding myself to surrender my thoughts to God, to center my heart and mind on His truth. Because if I look anywhere else for fulfillment, I’ll be sorely disappointed.
C.S. Lewis once said, “God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing.”
If I don’t focus on that truth, then I’m likely to lose hope all together.
Even when I miss my friends and their company, God is enough.
Even when I miss gathering together on Sundays, God is enough.
Even when I’m sad that my vacation got cancelled, God is enough.
Even when all the changes at work become overwhelming, God is enough.
Even in the midst of a global pandemic with so many uncertainties, God is enough.
He knows our hearts and He knows exactly what is to come. He provides all we need, and He’s continually orchestrating something that we can’t fully see or understand—something far greater than we can imagine. Let us rest in that truth.
In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety. (Psalm 4:8)
